Children as Digital World Citizens
Objective
The project is a research process that will map - and develop ideas for - the use of digital media in daycare institutions, focusing on digital education.
Content
The project team, in collaboration with a pedagogical network consisting of educators and educational consultants from municipalities across the country, is to study the current pedagogical practices of daycare institutions with digital media and to develop suggestions for the future use of digital media in Danish day care institutions focusing on digital education and the position of children as digital actors in a global world. That is, how are they dressed to become digital world citizens?
The research process consists of observations of existing practice in selected day care institutions and three research courses in collaboration with the associated pedagogical network in so-called next practice labs. Here, researchers and educators will jointly investigate the selected issues and focus topics and develop ideas for the pedagogical use of digital media in the future.
The project will be presented in a conference and report in December 2015, where researchers and pedagogues will present their findings and suggestions for the future pedagogical practice regarding digital media in daycare institutions.
Partnership
The project has come into being in a partnership between researchers Klaus Thestrup from the Center for Educational Development and Digital Media, University of Aarhus, Kjetil Sandvik from University of Copenhagen and Carsten Jensen from the Danish School of Education, as well as VIFIN and the project Digital Media for Children. In addition, pedagogues from Helsingør, Tåstrup, Aarhus and Vejle participate in the project team. From Vejle, Mette-Lise Larsen from Asebo and Marlene Skjærris from Paddehatten participates. Pedagogues play a central role as facilitators in the three "next practice labs". Two communication consultants, from respectively. VIA University College in Randers and the company getONLINE, also participate in ensuring a good dissemination of project results during the project and after the project through videos and a blog.
Financing
The project is funded by the Ministry of Children, Gender Equality, Integration and Social Relations.
